What’s On This Weekend: Adam’s Antiques Fair, Macbeth & Fanny & Alexander

 

Adam’s Antiques Fair in Victoria

The ‘Horti as it is also known, is the longest running Sunday antiques fair in London, with traders coming from all over the UK and Europe to take part at the historic Lindley Hall which is part of the Royal Horticultural Halls in Victoria. This month, the dealers will be specialising in fine jewellery, silver, paintings and ceramics as well as other items. There will be over 140 stands, selling a wide variety of decorative and ancient pieces, making it a totally unique event for you to try this weekend. If you’re keen to learn about the antiques trade a discover a real insiders’ secret, then this is the place to be. Macbeth on Southbank

Coming to the Olivier Theatre at the National Theatre on 26th February, is Shakespeare’s most intense and terrifying tragedy, Macbeth. Directed by Rufus Norris, Macbeth tells the story of the ruined aftermath of a bloody civil war. In a bit to survice, the Macbeths are ruthlessly propelled towards the crown by forces of elemental darkness. Annie-Marie Duff who plays Lady Macbeth is famous for multiple TV series including the infamous Shameless and films such as Suffragette and The Magdelan Sisters. Rory Kinnear is known for being many TV series including Black Mirror and for being in many films, including multiple Bond films. Taking residence in London until the end of June before they head on their UK tour this is one play not to be missed.

Barnum in London Bridge

Once a chocolate factory, the Menier has acted as a West End Theatre since 2004, playing host to many famous actors in its time and numerous stand out performances. Coming to the end of it’s run on the stage, Barnum tells the story of P.T Barnum, the Greatest Showman on Earth, who combines razzle-dazzle with charm and brass to sell “humbug” to cheering crowds. A joyful and moving musical portrait of the nineteenth century’s greatest show-biz legend, Barnum is a colourful, dynamic spectacle full of circus, side-show legends, toe-tapping songs and immense heart. Uniqlo Tate Lates on Bankside

For this month’s Uniqlo Tate Late, the Tate Modern will be celebrating 100 years since the Representation of the People Act, which granted some women the right to vote for the first time in British parliamentary elections. Tate Late will be celebrating women in the arts with a vibrant mix of art, music, film, workshops, pop-up talks and tasty street food. Join Frances Morris, Tate Modern’s Director and gal-dem’s founder Liv Little for a special discussion about women artist and their impact at Tate or create collages inspired by artists whose work supported the suffrage movement. You can also take part in a debate with the Feminist group Sisters Uncut about direct action for domestic violence services, or simply sit back and listen to the DJ’s Nabihah Iqbal, Lil C and Anz and Tone.

Fanny & Alexander in Waterloo

Fanny & Alexander by legendary filmmaker Ingmar Bergman is the latest play to come to The Old Vic in Waterloo and has been adapted for the stage by BAFTA award-winning writer Stephen Beresford and Old Vic Associate Director Max Webster. Children Fanny and Alexander grow up in loving chaos around the Ekdahl family who are theatre performers. When their mother remarries, their lives are turned upside down and in a battle of wills between freedom and repression, this play unfolds a story about the power of imagination and the endurances of a family’s love for each other. Including a great cast of actors such as Penelope Wilton and Thomas Arnold, this will be a great play to catch before it ends in mid-April.
