The Open Garden Squares Weekend in Pimlico

Every year almost 200 gardens take part in the Open Garden Squares Weekend all around London. There are always a great variety of gardens to discover such as the traditional private squares, contemporary roof gardens as well as skips, barges, museums, schools and allotments. This is a unique opportunity to nose into the private garden squares that people often peer into as well as discover some hidden gems that you may not know about. There are 9 gardens taking part within the Pimlico and Westminster area and will be providing activities such as puppet shows, walks and exhibitions. Gary Crosby Sextet: A Kind of Blue at St. John’s Waterloo

St. John’s Church in Waterloo will be hosting a night where jazz and poetry with leading jazz double bassist Gary Crosby. He will be bringing is outstanding sextet for a live performance of the best-selling jazz album in history: Miles Davis’ 1959 masterpiece, Kind Of Blue. The evening will begin with the Southwark Stanza poets’ society performing their new work, Waterloo Sunset and this will be led by award-winning poet Kate Miller. There will be a short break for dinner and then Gary Crosby will come on at 9pm. This is not a night to be missed for the ultimate jazz experience and will be a summer evening to remember.

Vauxhall Park Summer Fair

Coming to Vauxhall Park this Sunday is the Friends of Vauxhall Park Summer Fair. There will be plenty of fun activities to keep the whole family entertained such as donkeys, not one but two bouncy castles, a climbing wall, a dog show, plenty of stalls and games as well as hot and cold food, Pimms, crazy golf, go karts, lots of music and even a roller disco! Open from 2 – 5 pm this is a great day out for the whole family. The Great Get Together Bankside

The Great Get Together is a marvelous street party that is being hosting by Bankside Open Spaces Trust this Sunday. This will be a free event for everyone and is being made possible by support from local businesses’ and residents. Taking place across Union Street, Flat Iron Square, Redcross Way, Crossbones and Redcross Gardens the event has become poignant in light of the recent terror attacks in nearby London Bridge and Borough Market. Inspiration has also been taken from the late Jo Cox in the hope that it will bring the community together. The street will be filled with music, a dog show, comedy theatre, plenty of delicious food and drink, a quiet zone and much, much more. This is a great way to support the local community and have a fun day out in the sun.

The Big Picnic at Potter’s Field Park in London Bridge

This year, The Big Picnic will be returning to Potter’s Field Park and is a chance for local residents and Londoners to come together and enjoy a picnic whilst also meeting neighbours. There will be lots of acitivities at this family friendly event including a stage hosting local busker acts and other perfomances as well as lots of stalls with tasty food and drink and lots of workshops from local businesses. There will also be face painting for the little ones, a Punch & Judy stand and farm animals will be visiting from Spitalfields City Farm. This is a great way to spend your Sunday, relaxing on a deck chair or hay barrel and basquing in the summer sun.

Woyzek at The Old Vic Theatre on Southbank

If you’re looking for cultural to do in the evening then head to The Old Vic Theatre this weekend. John Boyega who is famous for his appearance in the most recent Star War’s film, will be perfoming in Jack Thorne’s modern adaptation of Woyzeck. Set in 1980’s Berlin amidst the Cold War, the world sits at a crossroads between Communism and Capitalism. A young soldier and his love are trying to find a way to build a better future for their child however escaping poverty comes at high cost. This play is only on for a limited time period, so don’t miss out on this opportunity!
