What’s On This Weekend: Bean To Bar Britain, The Secret Keeper & Beowulf

Simeon Barclay: The Hero Wears Clay Shoes Exhibition in Millbank

Simeon Barclay’s exhibition The Hero Wears Clay Shoes at Tate Britain comes to an end on 7th November. Taking inspiration from advertisements, magazines, television and music, Barclay is interested in how we construct and perform our identity. He uses a combination of images from culturally significant moments as well as his own personal memories to understand how we situate ourselves within society. He also uses various references from popular culture from his time growing up in the north of England to explore roles of masculinity and femininity and the expectations of society. Only a very short walk from our Westminster office, if you’re interested in looking at properties to rent or properties to buy in the area, feel free to drop in and hello to our team who would be happy to help.

Light Up Your Dreams: Poetry Craft For Families on Southbank

As part of the London Literature Festival taking place at the Southbank Centre, The Royal Festival Hall will be playing host to a poetry craft workshop called Light Up Your Dreams catered specifically for families. Take the kids along to work with Natasha Cossey who is a community artist, designer and creative facilitator, where she will help you to record your own dreams and hopes for the future using inspiration taken from Morten Søndergaard’s Wall of Dreams. This is a great way to get the family’s creative juices flowing and unleash the potential you might not know they have. This event is free and starts at 12pm on both Saturday and Sunday.

Zach Blas: Contra-Internet Exhibition in Kennington

Gasworks in Kennington are playing host to a major new commission and the first solo exhibition by London-based artist Zach Blas called Contra-Internet. Blas’ artwork is famous for confronting technologies of capture, security and control. Using live action, CGI animation, blown glass sculptures and a singled edition publication titled The End of the Internet, Contra-Internet confronts the growing hegemony of the internet and how it is fast becoming the principle instrument of rapid capitalism, surveillance and control: something that is increasingly difficult to discover an alternative to. Only a very short journey from our Kennington office, drop in and say hello if you’re keen to find out more about properties to rent or properties to buy in the surrounding area.

The Secret Keeper at Oval House in Oval

Previously described as a modern fairytale in the style of the Grimm Brothers, The Secret Keeper, a play written and co-directed by Angela Clerkin, tells the story of a good daughter who is desperate to make her father happy. She encourages him to tell her his deepest, darkest secret and which allows him to lift the great weight from his shoulders. She eventually becomes infamous by the whole town as the go-to person who will keep everyone’s secrets, however she finds herself in a sticky situation when someone confesses to murder! Illicit affairs, theft, murder, government cover-ups and whistle blowers: The Secret Keeper is a personal story with global consequences.
