What’s On This Weekend: Lambeth Palace Garden Open Day, Jeramee, Hartleby and Ooglemore and Vintage Vauxhall

 

Lambeth Palace Garden Open Day in Lambeth


This weekend will mark the first of this year's monthly open days at SE1's largest private garden which is only a short walk across Lambeth Bridge from our Westminster office. This is a wonderful opportunity to discover what lies behind the walls that trace along the Thames as well as a chance to enjoy the new spring blossoms including flowering cherries, magnolias, euphorbias and Ceanothus. Drinks will be available on the day and was a chance to purchase plants from the garden and Lambeth Palace honey and souvenirs. The £5 entry fees will going to Ronald McDonald House London, a charity that provides accommodation for the families of children being treated at the nearby Evelina London Children's Hospital.

Moomins In Adventureland at Southbank Centre, Southbank


The Moomins come to the Southbank Centre as part of the Nordic Matters exhibition. If the Moomins played a part in your childhood, this is a chance to climb into their world and explore their internationally renowned stories through the life of its author, Tove Jansson. Created in Finland, these these stories are set in Moominvalley and are about the characters Moominpappa, Moominmamma, little Moomintroll and their friends. Clamber through forests and float on high seas to try and find the Moomin family and learn how Jansson came up with these stories along the way. This is a great day out for the family and is only a short walk along the Thames from our Westminster office. Wolfgang Tillmans Exhibition at Tate Modern, Bankside


Only a short walk down the river from our London Bridge office, this will be the first exhibition for the German-born Wolfgang Tillmans at Tate Modern. Bringing together the works of this groundbreaking photographic artist that will demonstrate intimate still-lifes and portraits as well as images that address vital political issues there will be plenty of food for thought. This thought-provoking and emotive exhibition will include an exciting variety media such as video, digital slide, projections, publications, curatorial projects and recorded music. Tillmans' boundary breaking artwork makes him the first non-British artist to receive the Turner prize, so this is an exhibition not to be missed.

Custody at Oval House in Kennington

Custody is a play being held at the Oval House in Kennington and is inspired by the creator, Urban Wolf's own experiences with the police. About a young black man who dies in police custody, the story demonstrates the shock waves that it sends through the community and how his family struggle to make sense of the loss of their son whilst trying to a pursue a lengthy court battle to find justice. Unfortunately nobody appears to be to blame. This stark and timely new play explores the harsh reality of how young black men are slipping through the cracks in society. Written by Tom Wainwright, this play runs until this weekend and it only a short walk away from our Kennington office. Jeramee, Hartleby and Ooglemore at Unicorn Theatre in London Bridge

Jeramee, Hartleby and Ooglemore is a charming, smart and endearing comedy for young children that touches on all of those little emotional moments that everyone can remember such as conquering your coat buttons, tieing your shoe laces or losing a balloon. This show is about how it feels to shape a word on your lips for the first time and a world with your imagination. Three little oddballs with contrasting temperaments try to understand the world in this piece designed for children as young as three. They will explore annoyance, reassurance, joy, frustration, fear and relief. Vintage Vauxhall at The Workshop in Vauxhall

A new large market has come to Vauxhall and takes place every second Sunday of the month. Based in The Workshop which was once the London Fire Brigade head quarters, this space has been turned into an eclectic market for up to 60 high-quality traders who will be selling vintage, retro, mid-century pieces and decorative antiques. Vintage Vauxhall is the new sister market to the well-known BathVA Vintage and Decorative Antiques market and will have a collective of professional UK and European dealers selling a wide range of quirky pieces as well as collector's items. Only moments away from our Kennington office, this will be a fun day out for professional traders and for people looking for something different to do with their weekend.
