150-year-old London Bridge Station gets a facelift

Just a few months before the 150th anniversary of the opening of the original London Bridge Station, the first part of a new, ground-level concourse at London Bridge, featuring a new ticket office, lifts, escalators and shops, has opened to the public. The project, designed by architects Grimshaw, has removed the railway arches between Stainer Street and Weston Street and opened up some of the vaults between Stainer Street and Joiner Street, creating a new shopping area. Sushi, but also allow small businesses to establish a presence at the station. The rebuilding of London Bridge Station is part of the Thameslink Programme, which will eventually see 24 trains per hour running through Blackfriars Station at peak time 16 of them via London Bridge. Network Rail chief Mark Carne has predicted that London Bridge is set to become an iconic destination station like Kings Cross and St Pancras. This is a rapidly changing area with a great future.
