Make way for the Bankside Boardwalk

Urban designers, architects, highway engineers and other creatives are being asked to enter a competition to design the Bankside Boardwalk. This temporary build, to be erected in Lavington Street SE1, will be a creative and innovative structure۪ that determines how streets and pavements can be reconfigured to respond to changing pressures required by urban development; including increases in footfall and the need to safely navigate around building sites, temporary hoardings and roadworks.& Lavington Street is currently used as a rat-run۪ for traffic and the aim is to create a better environment for pedestrians. The project will be part of a wider trial to test the suitability of proposed road changes before they become permanent. & Bankside Boardwalk is one of four schemes across the capital funded by the Mayor of London۪s Future Streets Incubator Fund. The project will receive 81,400 of public funding and is part of the Bankside Urban Forest initiative, which promises to help spread the social and economic benefits of riverside regeneration schemes deeper into Southwark. & We love a good competition at Daniel Cobb and can۪t wait to see the winning entry. The last date for submissions is 22nd August.

The organisers are looking for a creative team with a strong track record in delivering original, beautiful and functional highway and urban realm projects, coupled with a creative and innovative approach to both urban design and product design.
