What’s On This Weekend: Chelsea Flower Show, Leonardo Da Vinci & Feria De Londres

 

Leonardo da Vinci in Westminster

This weekend, the Queens Gallery will be opening new exhibition celebrating the 500th anniversary of the death of Leonardo da Vinci. Bringing together more than 200 of the Renaissance master’s greatest drawings in the Royal Collection, this will be the largest exhibition of Leonardo’s work in over 65 years. Chelsea Flower Show in Chelsea

If you’re lucky enough to bag yourself a ticket, then the Chelsea Flower Show is the place to be this weekend. This world-renowned, glamorous and quintessentially British event is an unforgettable day out. This year you’ll be able to marvel at the flawless show gardens from top designers, bringing the most innovative ideas to horticulture. You can also expect designers to be exploring hard-hitting issues including climate change, pollution to mental and physical health. If you’re not able to get in, the Chelsea In Bloom festival is also taking place where shops and businesses all around Chelsea have adorned their entrances with magnificent displays which are truly worth taking the time to have a look at.

Adam’s Antiques Fair in Victoria

The ‘Horti as it is also known, is the longest running Sunday antiques fair in London, with traders coming from all over the UK and Europe to take part at the historic Lindley Hall which is part of the Royal Horticultural Halls in Victoria. This month, the dealers will be specialising in fine jewellery, silver, paintings and ceramics as well as other items. There will be over 140 stands, selling a wide variety of decorative and ancient pieces, making it a totally unique event for you to try this weekend. If you’re keen to learn about the antiques trade a discover a real insiders’ secret, then this is the place to be.

Orpheus Descending in Borough

There’s no doubt that Tennessee Williams was one of the greatest playwrights of the 20th Century. One of his widely praised plays Orpheus Descending is on at the Menier Chocolate Factory in Borough until 6th July. This version of the Deep South American drama is directed by Theatr Clywd’s Artistic Director, Tamara Harvey, famous for her work on Home I’m Darling at the National Theatre. The play is a modern retelling of the ancient Greek Orpheus legend, set in a dry goods store in a small southern town which is marked my conformity, sexual frustration, narrowness and racism. Tide Walk in Waterloo

Did you know that even though London might be two miles away from the sea, its tides raise and drop the river the height of a two-storey building twice every single day? William Thomson from Tidal Compass will be hosting a guided walk this Sunday that starts from Gabriel’s Wharf on the South Bank at 3pm and finishes at Tate Modern at 4.30pm. You will also be able to learn about the power of water directly from the author of ‘The Book of Tides’. Feria De Londres on Southbank

If you are a fan of Spanish food and culture, hop along to the Feria de Londres in Bernie Spain Gardens on South Bank near the Oxo Tower that is running all weekend. Following on from the success of previous years, the Feria de Londres is set to bring the lively and vibrant celebrations of the Andalusian region to the banks of the River Thames. There will be plenty of dancing, music and live entertainment as well as typical delicious dishes and drinks to sip on. People will show up in their finest traditional costume and the public are encouraged to get involved and dress for the occasion too. If you fancy some tasty food or the chance to take part in an outdoor flamenco lesson, then this is the place to be!
