BP Portrait Award 2019 in Westminster

The BP Portrait Award is the most prestigious portrait painting competition in the world and represents the very best in contemporary portrait painting. With a total prize fund of £74,000, the Award is aimed at encouraging artists to focus upon and develop portraiture in their work and over the years has attracted more than 40,000 entries from across the world. Init’s 40th year at the National Portrait Gallery, the exhibition is free for all to attend until 20th October. Waterloo Walk: Lost Hospitals of SE1 in Waterloo

The Waterloo Festival is an annual summer festival or arts and inspiration, held in and around St John’s Waterloo. It celebrates arts, music, ideas and new talent in a beautiful setting in the beating artistic heart of London. Dive into Waterloo’s rich local heritage on this local walk led by Elaine Andrews of Morley Collage and the Waterloo & Southbank Heritage Society. Among the topics, you can expect to learn about some of the hospitals that once stood in and around North Lambeth and Southwark. To take part in this walk, make sure you book your space in advance and then meet at the steps of St. John’s Church this Saturday at 2pm.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream Play in London Bridge

A Shakespearean classic comes to the Bridge Theatre until the end of August. See the theatre transformed into a forest in this immersive version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Reuniting the production team responsible for last year’s smah-hit run of Julius Caesar, the lead cast members will include Gwendoline Christie from Game of Thrones, Oliver Chris from Green Wing, David Moorst from Allelujah! and Hammed Animashaun from The Festival. Join them in a dream world of flying fairies, contagious fogs and moonlight revels. Science Gallery London Tour in Southwark

This Friday at 11am, as part of the London Festival of Architecture, go behind the scenes of Science Gallery London, designed my LTS Architects on the site of the 18th Century Old Guy’s Hospital. Hear about its past, present and future and its journey to become a destination that aims to create a world where young people challenge research and culture to affect change. After the tour you can visit the free DARK MATTER exhibition, exploring ideas at the interface of science, technology and art, informed by conversations and collaborations with leading theoretical physicists from King’s College London and their research at the limits of what can be observed or known.

Kiss My Genders Exhibition on Southbank

This week the Hayward Gallery opened a new group exhibition celebrating more than 30 international artists called Kiss My Genders. Spanning the past 50 years and bringing together over 100 artworks from around the world their works explore and engage with gender identity. Employing a wide range of approached including photography, painting, sculpture, installation and video, the artists articulate and engage with gender fluidity, as well as non-binary, trans and intersex identities. Open until 8th September, the exhibition’s hope is to move beyond a conventional understanding of the body, and in doing so open up new possibilities for gender, beauty and representations of the human form. Vauxhall Vintage Kilo Sale in Vauxhall

The Vintage Clothing Kilo Sale comes to The Workshop in Vauxhall this Sunday. Supplied by Europe’s largest vintage wholesaler, this sale lets you pick from thousands of vintage, retro and branded items from the 70’s to early 00’s. Expect to find retro tees, denim, jackets, jumpers, skirts and much more. It’s a great chance to load up on very cheap vintage garms as each kilo of clothing only costs £15. There’s no minimum spend and you can buy single items for as little as 75p.
