What’s On This Weekend: Lambeth Country Show, Cradle of Magic & Summer Opening of the State Rooms

 

Summer Opening of the State Rooms of Buckingham Palace in Westminster

Each summer, the magnificent State Rooms of Buckingham Palace open to visitors for 10 weeks between 20th July and 20th September. The State Rooms are the public rooms in the Palace where The Queen and members of the Royal Family receive and entertain their guests on State, ceremonial and official occasions. There are 19 State Rooms in total, furnished with many of the greatest treasures from the Royal Collection, including paintings by Van Dyck and Canaletto, and some of the finest English and French furniture in the world. The Music of John Williams in Waterloo

Head to St John’s Waterloo this Friday for a night of some of American composer, John William’s, most renowned film scores; including music from Star Wars, E.T., Jaws, Jurassic Park and more! The Horton Chamber Orchestra, which is an ensemble comprised of some of the best music students across London, includes players taken from the Royal Academy of Music, Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Royal College of Music and Trinity Laban College of Music and Drama. Conducted by Jack Wong, this will be a great night if you’re looking to do something a little different.

Natalia Goncharova Exhibition on Bankside

Natalia Goncharova’s first ever retrospective exhibition to be held in the UK is being presented by Tate Modern, with most of the works having never been seen in the UK before. Goncharova was an established leader of the Russian avant-garde movement, with her own major exhibition in Moscow in 1913, at the age of 32. Her artistic output was immense, wide-ranging and at times controversial. Her bold and innovative body of work influenced the art movements of the 20th Century and this exhibition will explore her diverse sources and inspirations, from Russian folk art and textiles to the latest trends in modernism and beyond. Dark Matter Friday Late in London Bridge

Friday Lates at Science Gallery London are a chance to explore the gallery after hours, enjoy a drink and bite to eat, and discover talks, workshops, performances and music brought to you by inspiring artists and researchers. This event is part of Dark Matter: 95% of the Universe is Missing, a free exhibition and events program, imagining the unseen and questioning the invisible through art, physics and philosophy. Head to Science Gallery London for a night of multi-sensory performances and new encounters with matter and celebrate the feeling of being part of something much bigger than ourselves.

Cradle of Magic Exhibition in Lambeth

Cradle of Magic is the latest exhibition being held at Newport Street Gallery in Lambeth. Bringing together two giants of twentieth-century British painting: John Bellany and Alan Davie. John Bellany came to be considered one of Britain’s foremost figurative painters and described the relationship between the sacred and profane as being among his most important subjects. Alan Davie was one of the first British artists to explore Abstract Expressionist forms and techniques. Linked to the Scottish Renaissance movement, his work was informed by interest in triba and ancient art as well as Zen Buddhism. Only a short bus ride from our Kennington office, drop in if you’re keen to find out more about properties to rent or properties to buy in the area.

Lambeth Country Show in Brockwell Park

In it’s 45th year, the Lambeth Country Show will return to Brockwell Park this weekend, boasting a unique line-up that celebrates the very best of the city and countryside. With over 100,000 people attending last year, the show is one of the biggest free family festivals in the UK. Expect to see all the attractions of a traditional country show plus much more. There will be horticultural shows, sheep and owl displays, home grown vegetable and flower competitions, an abundance of craft and food stalls and an onsite farm for all to enjoy. You can also expect losts of music varying from dub, Afro-beat, disco, jaxx, folk, ska and soul as well as an eclectic mix of local talent including a choir, steel orchestra and a samba band.
